IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF VINCENT VAN GOGH STEPS

Since Jim first saw a print of "Irises" while in his teens, he has been one of Van Gogh's biggest fans. Fifty years later, he finds himself living in an area where the troubled artist spent two of his most productive years, creating more than 300 paintings and hundreds of drawings. A little over half of this time was spent in Arles, the remainder, in a mental institution in Saint Remy called Saint Paul de Mausole. Among the masterpieces credited to this period are "The Langlois Bridge", "The Café Terrace on the Place du Forum", "The Night Café", "The Yellow House", "Still Life with Twelve Sunflowers", "Cypresses", "Starry Night", "Noon: Rest from Work" "First Step", and Jim's favorite "Irises".

As a tribute to one of the world's greatest artists and a service to guests of Mas du Petit Grava, Jim has organized a free tour of the sites and places that Vincent made famous. It is called "In the Footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh". In the course of this day, you will experience the life and spirit of Vincent in a way that is totally different from what you have known in visits to museums to see his paintings. In the process, you will come face to face with some of the world's greatest antiquities, preserved in these ancient Roman cities.
